When it comes to deep voice training, you have to be very persistent. By training your voice, you really can make it sound richer, more resonant, and deeper.

If you really want to make your voice sound deeper, then you will want to read the tips below. In this post I’m going to share three voice training tips that over time, will help deepen the sound of your voice and improve resonance.

Remember, the key to a successful deep voice training program is to perform these exercises consistently!

Here are some of my favorite deep voice training exercises that you can perform to help make your voice sound deeper:

Neck muscle exercises

This may sound like BS, but stronger neck muscles can actually help. They don’t directly effect the sound of your voice, but they will relieve vocal cord tension, lowering voice pitch and improving resonance.

Posture Exercises

Posture plays a large role when it comes to the sound of your voice. If your chin is down and you are constantly in a slouched position your voice will suffer. Simply by sticking your chest out and lifting your chin you will immediately notice an improvement in voice depth. To find the “sweet spot”, start by humming in a low pitch with your chin touching your chest. Slowly raise your chin upwards towards the ceiling. somewhere in between you will find comfortable point where your voice box “opens up”, and your voice pitch sounds deep and rich.

Daily Voice Exercises

Simple deep voice training exercises such as humming while slowly raising and lowering your chin can help loosen tense vocal cords, and help lower voice pitch over time. Perform a few “sets” of about 20-30 seconds daily.

If you perform the above deep voice exercises regularly, you will begin to notice an improvement in the depth of your voice over time.

Best of luck!

How would you like to learn how to strengthen your voice and improve it’s overall tone and resonance?

The good news is that there are some rather simple exercises that you can perform daily that I will outline below. These exercises are quite simple, and can really make your voice sound much stronger and more powerful. Also be sure to watch the video below with tips from a real voice coach.

Voice Strength Tip #1: Breathing Control

In order to speak properly you need to learn how to control your breathing. One of the most important factors that will help you strengthen your voice is learning how to speak from the diaphragm. Focus on using the diaphragm muscles to help project the sound of your voice as opposed to your lungs.

Voice Strength Tip #2: Volume Control

A stronger voice does not mean that you should go around yelling. Keep the volume of your voice at an acceptable level. If you speak too loudly, tone down. If too softly, focus on proper breathing and speaking from the diaphragm.

Voice Strength Tip #3: Pitch Variation

Try not to speak in a monotone. Using your entire vocal range ads interest and personality to your voice. To work on improving the pitch of your voice, try making “siren sounds” using different notes.

Voice Strength Tip #4: Articulation

A strong voice requires clear precise articulation. Your words should sound clean and not forced. In order to improve how you articulate your words, be sure to use your facial muscles when you speak.

Other ways to improve articulation:

Dropping the jaw

Emphasizing vowels in words

Emphasizing consonants at the end of certain words

Voice Strength Tip #5: Voice Quality

Voice quality is how pleasing your voice is to listen to. What you are aiming for is a clean, “rich” sounding voice. To maximize voice quality, work on breathing and try to place the sound in your inner mouth area as opposed to your throat or nose. One good way to practice is to hum with your mouth closed and teeth slightly apart. If you feel a “buzz” on the front of your face then you know you are doing it right.

Tell us about how you were able to strengthen your voice. Have any of these exercises helped you?

Do you think that having a deep voice is a big asset? What do you think the ladies views are on a deep voice?

Would you believe it if I told you that the majority of women agree that a deep voice is an attribute that they look for when choosing a man?

I’m sure you may have figured that having a deep voice couldn’t hurt when it came to the ladies… but perhaps you had never seen rock solid proof.

Well… I’m going to show you some proof that I found on another website that I thought was very interesting.

I came across this poll that someone had posted on a website called AnswerBag.com.

He posted the following question:

“Ladies: Are you attracted to a man who has a deep voice?”

Checkout the answers below…

Answer #1: “I don’t know about deep, but I don’t like it to be high pitched.”

Answer #2: “well i have never really been with a guy that has had a deep voice but as long as they dont sound like they are going through puberty i am good to go with the whole deep voice thing.”

Answer #3: “Oh yeah. Something about it gives me goose bumps.”

Answer #4: “Yes, but not like James Earl Jones or anything. But I will say that my husband sounds extremely in his deep ‘first thing in the morning’ or “last thing in the evening’ voice.”

Answer #5: “yeah but not too deep or anything. I would say my b/f has a REGULAR voice for a man, i like that just fine. There was a study and men with deeper voices tend to father more children….weird huh? Saw it on the news”

Answer #6: “Yep…a high, thin voice is never pleasant to the ear, even in a woman. Think James Earl Jones…I could listen to him read anything and not be bored…yes, even the phonebook!.”

Answer #7: “Baritone or Bass will get me every time.”

Click Here to view the actual AnswerBag webpage with this poll.

Well there you have it guys, it looks like a unanimous decision-a deep voice is a huge plus when it comes to picking up chicks.

So… What Does This Mean??

So I know what you’re saying… that’s great news for the dude’s with a baritone voice, but not for those with a high pitched voice!

Well, the good news my friends is that there is something that you can do to transform your squeaky, high pitched voice into a deeper, sexier more trust worthy voice. Although a small percentage of you may require pitch lowering surgery or testosterone to deepen you voice, most of you can benefit from simple voice and vocal cord exercises.

By performing these exercises regularly you will be able to increase the projection and depth of your voice.

Most people aren’t even aware that pitch lowering surgery even exists. The truth of the matter is, pitch lowering surgery (also referred to as “Thyroplasty”) is real and happens every day.

Pitch lowering surgery alters the size and/or shape of the vocal cords. This in turn changes the pitch of your voice. Most candidates for this type of surgery have sustained damage to their vocal cords or the nerves surrounding them, or were born with voice problems. However, there are people with extremely high pitched voices that have the surgery simply because they want to make their voice sound deeper.

Here is a little more information about pitch lowering surgery:

Presurgery

Before the procedure you will fill out a form that helps assess your risks, and answer any questions you may have. In addition, the doctor will perform an evaluation of your voice box bot visually, and audibly.

Risks of Surgery

As with most surgeries, there are many risks. Aside from inflammation and infection or severe scaring, loss of vocal range is possible. The voice pitch may also not change to it’s desired level.

The Procedure

Most thyroplasty procedures are performed in an outpatient setting under general anesthesia. After you have been anethsitized, insicions are made in your neck. A strip of cartilage is removed from the sides of your voice box, and new edges are sutured together.

Recovery

After the surgery your voice will likely be deeper immediately, however there will be swelling that will alter the pitch (usually very low). The actual pitch may not set in for two to three months after the swelling has gone down.

Is pitch lowering surgery right for you?

If you have consulted your physician and have tried voice training and nothing seems to be working, then pitch lowering surgery may be a viable option. However, it really should be a last resort. Not only are there risks involved, it is also quite costly.

I found that training my voice worked extremely well. It didn’t happen overnight, but with plenty of practice I was able to sustain a deeper pitch that is finally there every time I speak.

Do yourself a favor and don’t start smoking, don’t scream, you’ll just damage your voice cords. Check out Rudy Haynes online course called “Deep Voice Mastery“. It’s the most comprehensive course of it’s kind and has gotten some great reviews from readers of this site who have had great results with it.

Many people email me and ask me if smoking makes your voice deeper. I’ve never smoked myself, but can tell you by knowing a number of people that have smoked for many years, it does. Haven’t you ever heard a 60 year old women that smokes? They often sound like a man!

I did a little research and found out that in the short term, smoking can make some people’s voice sound deeper because it makes the vocal chords swell. Also, the phlegm that builds up in your throat can change the shape of your voice box. For certain people, this makes their voice sound more “crackly”, while for others it will actually lower their pitch.

The Long Term Effects

The problem is that over the long term, smoking is very bad for your vocal cords so if you are considering smoking just to benefit from a deeper voice I’d recommend that you seriously reconsider.

You probably already know how bad smoking is for the rest of your body… It causes all kinds of cancers, cardiovascular problems, breathing problems etc. Not only will it contribute to premature break down of your vocal cords, it can also cause polyps to grow on them. These polyps can make you voice sound absolutely awful.

Simply put, the risks of smoking to make your voice deeper out weight the small change that might occur with your voice.

What are Better Voice Deepening Options?

Although voice deepening surgery and testosterone are options to help make your voice deeper, they should really be a last resort and really are not necessary for most people. The costs and risks associated with both methods are high.

90% of the time, voice training will help you deepen your voice pitch. It won’t happen overnight, but if you are consistent with the training exercises it can make a big difference.

If you don’t have the money for hiring a voice coach for private lessons, then PLEASE do yourself a favor and checkout the next best thing…

Rudy Haynes “Deep Voice Mastery Course“, which shows you exercises that will loosen the tension in your vocal cords and make your voice deeper.

It’s easy to follow, cheap, and best of all it really works.

Deep Voice Mastery is a relatively new voice deepening ebook/program that teaches both vocal and physical exercises that deepen your voice. It’s meant for not only high pitched voices, but also those that have squeaky/crackly voices.

CLICK HERE to visit the Deep Voice Mastery Website

Now, let me tell you that there isn’t a whole lot out there when it comes to voice deepening guides/programs, so whenever something new hits the market I’m always eager to check it out.

Even a few years ago when I transformed my voice, there wasn’t much helpful reading material out there so I really had to learn most of the stuff on my own… and this took lots of time and experimentation.

Why Should You Consider a Voice Deepening Program?

Although having a voice coach would be great, most of us can’t afford to pay $100 or more per session (usually a minimum of 5 sessions). Also, many of us don’t have the time to go meet with

Rudy Hanes "Deep Voice Mastery"

a voice coach and spend an hour at the session, and another hour to commute.

This is why programs like Deep Voice Mastery can be very valuable. They can potentially save you time and lots of money… if they work!

When I started this site back in July 2008, the only online program out there was Mike London’s 12 page ebook called “A Deeper Voice: Right Away”. It wasn’t very extensive, but people that came to my site tried it and said it worked.

Now that we’re almost in the year 2010 now, I figured that there had to be another program out there and sure enough I found “Deep Voice Mastery” authored by a man named Rudy Haynes.

I went ahead and forked out the $47 for the program, grabbed a cup of coffee and dove right in…

*NOTE!! I’d like to mention that I actually did buy the program for full price and am not one of those jerks that writes a review based only on the sales page of the site! I figure that if you are considering buying one of these programs, it’s only fair that you know what you are going to get.

What is the Deep Voice Mastery program?

Deep Voice Mastery is a 36 page guide written by Rudy Haynes. I wondered if Rudy was a real person, so I emailed him to ask a few questions after I purchased the program and to my surprise he responded within a few hours. Pretty impressive so far.

Now more about the book & program it’s self…

The book is very easy to follow and laid out nicely. It outlines the exercises that Rudy himself used to transform his voice. With the exception of a couple techniques, I can tell you that they were very similar (if not identical) to the exercises that worked for me.

There are also two other helpful chapters in the book that outline voice deepening surgery and testosterone buccal, and who might benefit from these methods. I can tell you that there really isn’t much information available on the web about these these topics, so I’m glad Rudy did the research and included the information in the ebook.

In addition to the ebook, there are a pile of bonuses. Although not all of them may appeal to you, there are a couple in particular that are worth the $47 cost of the program alone.

*Do note that it says the bonuses are available for a limited time, but I think that is just a marketing gimmick. They will still be available next week and probably next month for that matter!

Deep Voice Mastery Bonuses

Here’s what is included when you order the Deep Voice Mastery program:, and my 2 cents about each of them:

Voice Software

I tried this out and was impressed. Pretty cool piece of software that allows to test and track your voice pitch. It is a great way to actually be able to visually try to improve, and track your progress.

Ebooks

A couple of ebooks that didn’t interest me much, but could be useful to many of you. One is about how to gain confidence and the other is a guide to dating women. They are not going to help make your voice deeper, but could prove to be helpful!

Member’s Area Access

I thought this was cool. The members area has a bunch of articles, some videos, and some bonus downloads that Rudy doesn’t mention on the main website. It’s also the best place to contact Rudy.

Unlimited Email Support

I did verify that Rudy responds to emails which is cool. Basically he is offering his support to you for as long as you need it. Quite solid indeed…

Unlimited Updates

In all honesty I don’t know how many times the book will be updated, but the members area may very well be updated regularly. I cannot confirm this yet however as I only ordered the program a week ago.

What I Didn’t Like About Deep Voice Mastery

Overall I think Rudy did a nice job with the program. There are a couple of recommendations I made to him via email however.

1 – I recommended that he make separate ebook that demonstrate the voice deepening exercises. Right now it’s all in the main book. Being separate from the 36 page manual might make it easier to follow.

2 – I told him to make more video demonstrations so that the program is a little more user friendly. It’s still easy to follow, but more videos would make it even better.

Update: Rudy emailed me back and informed me that these changes will be made in the next edition of the program (not sure when it is being released).

Final Thoughts

If making your voice deeper is really important to you then for $47 this program will be a steal, and I think the majority of you will be impressed. The exercises work, Rudy appears to be a real person that offers real support, and pretty much all of the information you need is right at your finger tips.

This program beats Mike London’s “Deeper Voice: Right Away” out of the water. No comparison. It’s $20 cheaper and is way more extensive.

According to a recent study, men with deeper voices have more children than those with a higher pitched voice.

The study conducted by David Feinberg of McMaster University in Canada showed that women are more attracted to men that have deeper voices. Why is this? Apparently some women sub-conciously feel that the men are more masculine, healthier and older than other men.

David conducted the study to see how the increased attraction to deeper voiced men affected reproduction and the survival of offspring.

“While we find in this new study that voice pitch is not related to offspring mortality rates,” Feinberg said, “we find that men with low voice pitch have higher reproductive success and more children born to them.”

To look for a relationship between the pitch of a man’s voice and birth rates researchers studied a tribe in Tanzania know as the Hadza. This tribe is one of the last know true hunter-gatherer cultures. Because the tribe use no modern methods of birth control, the researches could compart birth rates with no outside influencing factors.

In the end the study showed that Male Hadza tribe members with the deepest voices had more children than the men with higher pitched voices. This relationship between the depth of one’s voice and birth rates could give insight into the evolution of now only how females choose their mates, but also that of the male voice.

“If our ancestors went through a similar process,” Feinberg said, “this could be one reason why men’s and women’s voices sound different.”

If you were not born with a deep voice you can’t turn into Barry White. The good news is that there are voice exercises that you can perform that will help condition your vocal chords and improve the depth of your voice dramatically.

There are many benefits to having a more manly voice. In my mind, the biggest benefit to having a manly sounding voice is that it makes you a much more confident person. Not only will you feel more confident when speaking on the telephone, you will also feel much more confident in any social situation.

This is especially true if your voice is currently high, or cracks when you speak. Quite honestly, you will feel like a whole new man by making your voice deeper.

How do I Make my Voice Sound More Manly?

If you were not born with a manly voice, unfortunately you will never sound like Barry White or Don Lafontaine. With that being said, you can substantially improve your voice and make it sound much more manly.

Below are ways that you can experiment with to help you achieve a more manly voice:

Strengthen the vocal chords – The vocal chords are just like any other muscle in your body. If you condition them properly, your voice can improve dramatically.

Voice Lowering Exercises – Here is a cool voice lowering exercise. Give it a shot, I think you will be impressed at how quickly it works.

Voice lowering surgery – Certainly not an option for everyone, but the odd person may require it. Consider this a last resort.

Checkout the rest of the articles on this site for more techniques that will help you achieve a more manly voice.

What is the Best Way to Make Your Voice More Manly?

I think the best way to make your voice sound more manly would be to consult a voice coach. The problem is that this is not an option for most people, since they can charge up to $100 per hour.

Fortunately there is an alternative to one-on-one voice coaching. It’s a voice lowering program called “Deep Voice Mastery”, by Rudy Haynes. It’s currently the only program of it’s kind on the market, and has been getting rave reviews from readers of this site.

Many people that they want a deep singing voice, when in actuality they want a stronger, clearer voice that expresses confidence. Some people want all of the above!

The bad news is that if you don’t sound like Don Lafontaine now, you probably never will. I am sorry to say that, but it is the truth.

You see, the size of your larynx is the most important factor that determines how deep your voice is. Those with a larger larynx naturally have a deeper voice, because the vocal cord muscles are longer and are therefore able to produce a lower sound.

The good news is that you can certainly make your voice deeper and improve the strength and clarity of your voice by “exercising” the vocal cord muscles and following the other steps I outline below.

The Steps to a Deeper More Powerful Singing Voice

In order to achieve a deeper singing voice, there are a few things that you must master, which I will go over in detail below:

Deep Singing Voice Tip #1 – Strengthen Your Diaphragm Muscles

Strengthening your diaphragm will allow you to take fuller, deeper breaths. In order to strengthen the diaphragm muscle, inhale slowly and then exhale with an “ss” sound (like a snake). Panting also works, but in either case it is important that you focus on using the diaphragm muscle in order to build those muscle. Simply put, do not exhale using your lungs, use your diaphragm! You may feel some discomfort in the diaphragm muscle as you continue this exercise, and that is a sign that you are performing it correctly.

Deep Singing Voice Tip #2 – Proper Posture

Posture is an important aspect when it comes to a deeper more powerful voice, and it is often overlooked. Proper posture will help properly align the muscles that are responsible for projecting your voice.

Here are some posture tips:

Pretend that there is a string attached to your head and it is being pulled upwards.

Your head should be above your shoulders, shoulder above hips, hips above the knees (slightly bent) and knees above your feet.

Raise your chest to ensure that the lungs can fully expand when inhaling.

Simply put, slouching and poor body alignment are unacceptable and will deteriorate the sound of your voice.

Deep Singing Voice Tip #3 – Voice Projection

To get the most out of your voice, make sure you are relaxed. Strained, tight vocal cords will make your voice sound higher as opposed to lower. Now, stand straight and take a deep breath in. It’s important that you raise your palate at this point-once you feel cold air hit the back of your throat you are good to go. Now project your voice using your diaphragm muscles. Be sure that your chin is straight or slightly downwards.

I’m sure that these deep singing voice tips will be helpful to you. I’d also like to note that if you are not 25 years of age yet, your singing voice might naturally become lower over time, so it’s important to be patient!

You may only know him as “the movie voice over guy“, but underneath that legendary baritone voice is a real man… a legendary man if you will. His name is Don Lafontaine and unless you’ve never watched TV in your life, I can almost guarantee you have heard his incredible voice before.

Unfortunately Don recently passed away, and seeing that this site is all about making your voice deeper I figured that writing a little tribute post to Don would make sense… I mean when it comes to a deep voice, Don Lafontaine is the first man that comes to mind for most people-even if you only know him as “the movie voice over guy”.

I think It’s safe to say that Don has the most recognized voice in Hollywood, and even if you’ve never seen his face before, I can almost guarantee you that you have heard his rock solid voice on one of the thousands of movie trailers he’s narrated over the years.

Don Lafontaine was in high demand when it came to voice overs, and studio’s were willing to pay him big bucks for his work. Don reportedly made millions of dollars a year from his voice overs. During his peak it was not uncommon for Don to voice 35 promotions in a single day.

Here are a few of Don’s most memorable movie trailers voice overs:

Terminator 2: Judgement day

Shrek

Friday thte 13th

Don’s voice sends shivers up your spine, regardless of whether he is narrating a children’s cartoon or a horror movie. He can make it sound fluffy and comical to downright terrifying.

Here is a rather entertaining video featuring Don Lafontaine “the movie voice over guy”:

A pretty amazing career Don has had that’s for sure. RIP Don Lafontaine!

Do you want a voice like Don Lafontaine? Okay well I don’t think anyone will ever have a voice like Don, but if you want to improve your voice then you have to Click Here to check this voice lowering course out... It actually works!

What are the most memorable movie narrations you can remember from Don Lafontaine? Will any movie narrator ever be able to replace Don?
